Delhi Jaipur weekend Road trip

My weekend roadtrip from Delhi to the Pink City Jaipur

Around 12AM, Kaushal called and said, “Bhai kahin chalte hain!” and in response I gave him 2 options, “Jaipur or Chandigarh“. He took few seconds and said, “Jaipur“. Shakespeare once said “Friends who road trip together, stay together“. Okay! I made that up but you know its true.

Explore, Experience, Then Push Beyond.

Nothing can be better than an unplanned road trip. I packed my bag with a pair of t-shirt, jacket and jeans and took my keys and started my car. It was cold outside and so the roads were empty. No traffic. It took me 1 hour to reach Gurgaon (Kaushal’s place). Kaushal had invited two of his other friends, Ilma (Uueeemmaa) and Vanda. Around 4AM, with full tank, high spirits and too much excitment, we all started from Gurgaon to Jaipur.

I gave the Aux Cable to Uueeemmaa, she plugged it in her phone and seconds later we all were singing. Suuuugarr. Yes Pleeaaaase. Won’t you come and put it down on me. With songs and so much to talk, we realized we had covered half the distance in 2 hours and so we took a break at Hotel Highway, a dhaba on the Gurgaon-Jaipur Highway (NH-8). We refilled ourself with Tea, Coffee and Aaloo Puri, and started again. Couple of hours later, we stopped again but this time to purchase Kites. Yes! Kites. If their had been a degree in flying Kites, Kaushal would have a doctorate. Jaipur hosts international kite festival every year and this was one of the main reason, Kaushal picked on Jaipur over Chandigarh. He bought 10 Kites and Manjha (Kite Strings), we started and finally stopped our Car at our hotel’s parking spot.

Wasting no time, we climbed to the roof of the hotel to see Kaushal’s Kite flying skills. While Kaushal was much more experienced, we 3 were naive, and learned the art of flying kites from Kaushal. The actual Kite Festival was hosted at Jal Mahal, but the roads were new for us, and we decided to fly from hotel’s rooftop instead. We played for more than 2 hours until we realized we were hungry. We ate, took a power-nap and then went to see the City Palace, Museum and the Hawa Mahal. Vanda insisted for shopping and so our next stop was Johri Bazar. Jaipur city is famous for precious gemstones, jewelleries traditional designs, silver jewellery, bangles, blue pottery and clothes. I fail to understand a girls obsession for shopping. I mean WHY? Anyways!

It was 8PM and Chokhi Dhani was on our list. If you want to experience the rich rajasthani culture, heritage, hospitality and food, this is “THE” place. Chokhi Dhani is located in a very congested area at the outskirts of Jaipur. They have 2 different entry ticket, Rs. 700 which covers regular Rajasthani food and Rs.1100 which covers royal Rajasthani food. We bought the tickets and went inside, to get amazed. Camels, Elephants, Magic Shows, Fire shows, Bonfire, etc. Everything to make it perfect! We left the place around 12 and came back to our hotel.

Though we were tired like hell, we thought to making the night more fun by playing Dumb Charades and making fun of each other. That’s the beauty of travelling with friends. You talk, laugh, annoy each other, awkward silence, bare your sole and share your dreams.

Jaigarh Fort, Amber Fort, Jal Mahal and Nahargarh Fort are inline at the outskirts of the city. Next morning we decided to cover these places and then leave for Delhi. We checked out from our hotel around 12, went straight to Jal Mahal, enjoyed the view and clicked some pics. Then went to Jaigarh Fort to see the fort and world’s larget tank. From Jaigarh Fort we went to Nahargarh Fort, to see the Wax Meuseum, the rich heritage of Rajasthan and Rajasthani food at the Fort. In eve, we reached Amber Fort, saw the beautiful light & sound show, where they show the history of Jaipur with light & sound in the open air ambience. At 8PM we left the fort and started to for Gurgaon. In almost 2 days and 1 night, we pretty much covered all the important places in Jaipur (the pink city).

Hope our short escape will help you plan your Delhi Jaipur weekend Road trip. Beauty of road trips!
